Non-therapeutic sessions & service types

Not every session is a clinical one. ShrinkNotes supports the modalities you actually offer and keeps clinical features — CPT codes, treatment plans, superbills — cleanly out of the way when they don’t apply.

What service types can I choose?

• Psychotherapy — the default; treated as clinical.
• Life Coaching — non-therapeutic.
• Spiritual Direction — non-therapeutic.
• Other — non-therapeutic.

How do I set a session’s service type?

Open the appointment editor and pick from the Service Type dropdown at the top. It also serves as the appointment’s title, so you can tell at a glance what kind of session it is. New appointments default to Psychotherapy.

What’s different about a non-therapeutic session?

When a session isn’t psychotherapy, the clinical machinery steps aside:

• No CPT codes. The CPT display and override selector don’t appear, and there’s no duration-based CPT mapping.
• Not on superbills. Non-therapeutic sessions are excluded from superbill line items.
• Treatment plans hidden for clients whose work is entirely non-therapeutic.
• A service-type badge appears on non-therapeutic session cards so they’re easy to distinguish.
